Wireless Bar Code Scanners
| Wireless scanners are becoming more common all the time. They are sometimes called "handheld computers," because many units are in fact computers running Palm, Microsoft, or Linux operating systems. |
| |
|
 |
Most wireless Bar Code scanners include an 802.11b radio, designed to meet industry standard specifications for data transfer at a maximum of 11Mb per second. Other types of radios are available as well. |
| |
|
| Wireless scanners are used with base radio units, usually called "access points." The access points are connected to the local area network (LAN) providing direct communication of scanned and entered data. |
| |
Wireless scanners come equipped with two types of technology: the CCD imaging scanner, and the Laser scanner (standard and long-range). Like batch or terminal type scanners, these scanners usually have a large display screen, so that applications or scanned data can be viewed as it is gathered. |
