| Learn More About Bar Code Printers |
While many standard laser, inkjet, and even dot matrix printers can produce bar codes, only thermal bar code printers are specifically designed to produce a wide variety of on-demand labels, receipts, and tags, often more economically than other types of printers.
All thermal bar code printers can print onto direct thermal paper, but only printers designed to use special ribbons can print onto synthetic and paper stock.
Bar code printers are almost always used in conjunction with bar code labeling software that is easily customized for your needs. This software is available with a wide variety of options, and all software that IBF Group sells is supported through our vendors.
Ribbon Types Ribbons are used for thermal transfer printers and come in several types and sizes.
Labels Two main types of labels are used for bar code printers: Direct thermal and thermal transfer. Thermal transfer labels are used in printers that use a ribbon. Direct thermal labels are specially treated to turn dark when heat is applied.
Symbologies Most printers can print nearly all of the commonly used symbologies. Many also offer the option of selecting the specific symbology you use.
